Most narcissists never allow themselves to be analyzed by mental health care professionals, so it is difficult to know what the actual number of narcissists there are among us. It is believed that the number is 1 in 10 people are in fact narcissistically disordered. The clinical number is 6% of the U.S. population has NPD that we know of. Worldwide, the accepted stat is the same. There are 7.5 billion people in the world. Between a minimum of 3.3% of the world's population having antisocial personality disorder, and 6% known to have NPD, that is nearly 700 million people with no conscience who roam the earth and interact with people. If these people abuse just five people in their lives, that is half of the world's population that is deeply and profoundly impacted by these disorders. NPD is not an insignificant, or glibly misidentified condition. Consider studying the work of Bree Bonchay, LCSW for even more insight into this issue. She opened my eyes to the true public health crisis that these individuals are.
