I absolutely agree with all of this. If I do find myself zoning out when a child is describing or explaining something to me, I will say something like “Tell me more so I understand this better.” That’s the price I pay for zoning out in the first place, eh? But it also builds the child’s confidence. It’s my way of saying that I believe that a child can teach me something I don’t know as a grown-up. Kids are the best. There isn’t a kid I have met that I don’t like. It is so interesting to see the world through the eyes of my own four children and their friends.
